WINTER PROGRAM
Brave New Ballets
The Company’s Winter Program brims with innovation, represented by three world premieres.
Brian Reeder
Being Served
World Premiere
Brian Reeder’s impeccable craftsmanship and wit will be on display in Being Served, his new ballet for eight dancers. Set to Benjamin Britten’ s Prelude and Fugue For 18 Strings, Op.29 and the Simple Symphony, Op. 4, the ballet
is loosely based on the narrative of a dinner party gone wrong. Couples at the party misbehave, miscommunicate, lie to themselves about the true nature of their relationships and fantasize about what it would be like to partner with another. In the spirit of a Hitchcock film, the result is a darkly humorous, beautiful and ultimately very moving ballet about the search for human connection.
Charles Anderson
Polyglot
World Premiere
Charles Anderson embarks on something completely new with a piece set to a recorded monologue by actress Amy Walker that explores how we put on affects and how we are perceived.
Charles Anderson
Beautiful Maladies (excerpts)
Charles Anderson explores the passions and foibles of love in these four excerpts from his exquisitely emotional ballet Beautiful Maladies, inspired by the ballads of California jazz icon Chet Baker.
Patrick Corbin
For Use in Subhuman Primates Only
World Premiere
Patrick Corbin uses his signature energy and dynamic movement to examine how people fit themselves into relationships and create rules for establishing intimacy with others. Set to the music of English trip hop band Massive Attack, the ballet is fun and entertaining, but at the same time explores darker undercurrents of the club scene and how some people are compelled to anesthetize in order to feel anything at all.
